Green, Green Grass is a series of acrylic paintings presented on oddly-sized hardboard panels, incorporating matte and shimmer paint and fiber to construct lopsided windows into illustrative images that invoke cycles of growth and everyday ritual. When faced with an inability to change, what is lost and where does one end up? Familiar and mundane habits and superstitions may creep in, for better or worse, and they become a source of comfort, an act of prayer, and a distraction in a dying world. This work is playfully colorful and intuitive, simultaneously suggesting familiarity and warmth, and a cycle of stagnation in memory and ritual. Green, Green Grass incorporates ambiguous storytelling through narrative imagery to build a comfortable representation of the world through a lens of difficult emotions and disconnection from the self.
